Summary:
I (Jason D. Page) was contacted by iHeartRadio with a weeks notice to come out to LA to create light painting portraits of the main stage artists for the Wango Tango Concert. With such a short time frame to prepare and the very limited time we would have to shoot with each of the artists I thought it would be best to bring in some help so I enlisted fellow light painters Efren Herrera and Darren Pearson to come in on the project!
Darren Pearson and I arrived in LA a day early to check out the space and do some test shots. The space was nice however for light painting portraits we needed to be able to completely control the light and the booth that the crew had set up for us was full of light leaks. We spent most of the first day fixing light leaks and testing concepts to shoot with each artist.
The day of the event Efren Herrera and his assistant Melissa Meyer flew in and we did more testing and finalized the booth preparing all of the technical aspects of shooting, displaying, and delivering light painting portraits of the celebrities within the very quick turnaround time required.
As with most celebrity events, it was a bit chaotic, we had a tentative schedule however when the first celebrity Janelle Monae arrived about 30 minutes early we knew it was going to be a hectic event. We shot the various celebrities and iHeartRadio crew and staff for about 8 hours, with a few brakes in between but for the most part it was a high pressure event. Everyone that participated in our Light Painting Photo Booth absolutely loved the experience and the images and it was very exciting for us as artist to be able to introduce Light Painting to many people who had never seen it before!
