Light Prints: The Icons Series

The Icons series was loosely inspired by the printmaking work of Andy Warhol. While looking at some of Warhol’s prints in 2011, I wondered if I could replicate a printmaking process using the medium of light instead of ink. I began developing my Light Print process in late 2011 and have continued exploring and refining it ever since. The images in the Icons series are the first Light Prints created using this process.

Each image in the Icons series is an unedited Light Painting photograph, painted with handheld light sources and created entirely in one single photographic exposure. The Icons are SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera), with the exception of a planned square crop and the removal of occasional burnt pixels and dust or dirt spots for printing purposes.

Each Icon consists of five individual Light Paintings. Because every image is physically painted with light during its own long exposure, each Light Print is slightly different from the others. The result is a series of related yet unique works created through the movement of light through space and over time.
